As an online coach, you sure have a lead magnet that you give away for free in exchange for an email address.
That email address is pure gold because this person is telling you that s/he is interested in what you have to say.
The problem comes when, after the download, your next email arrives with no relation whatsoever with the lead magnet they downloaded.

If the only email they get from me is the delivery of my guide and the next is my monthly newsletter, they can get a bit confused, because they still don’t know much about me, they don’t know what I’m all about and what I do.
With an email welcome sequence, so a series of 5-8 emails where you introduce yourself that you send after the download of a lead magnet, it’s easier to create and nurture a relationship between you and your subscribers.
Benefits of a welcome sequence
Let’s see now in details four of the most important benefits of an email sequence:
- You introduce yourself
As is any relationship, you want to introduce yourself and tell more about you: what you do, what you stand for and what is your area of expertise. Your subscriber may have come across your freebie on Pinterest or in a Facebook group so s/he may not know much about you.
- Nurture your relationships with subscribers
Once your subscribers are on your list, you want to create and nurture a relationship with them.
As you nurture the relationship with leads and prospects in real life, an email sequence helps you to boost the relationship with your subscribers on autopilot.
Plus, you can get them excited about what’s coming up next, whether they are other free and valuable stuff or your paid offers.
- Segment your list
By asking one simple question as a sort of mini-survey, you can understand better your subscribers: are they newbies in business, or are they experienced?
If you know what you’re subscriber is interested in, you can create and send more relevant content!
- Bring value
A welcome sequence helps you to deliver amazing and valuable content to your list on autopilot.
So not only they can benefit from your expertise, but they also get an idea about how you help your clients, and this is all it’s needed to prime them for your paid offers.
What tools you can use
There are many tools you can use to set up an email funnel (a fancier name for a welcome sequence).
Three of my favourites are:
- Active Campaign: absolutely the best email marketing tool in terms of features and price.
- ConvertKit: As good as Active Campaign, but definitely more expensive
- MailerLite: If you have a little budget, MailerLite is definitely the best tool you can use.
It’s free and the email automation section is very visual, just like Active Campaign.
